Pop-up & Adware Removal

Ads on every page. A tab that opens by itself. A warning saying your computer is infected, with a phone number to call. Pages that go somewhere you did not click. None of it is a traditional virus, and a standard antivirus scan will usually clear it as clean.

It is a browser problem, and it is fixed by repairing the browser rather than reinstalling Windows and hoping.

What gets removed

  • Pop-ups that appear with no browser open
  • Advertisements injected into search results and ordinary pages
  • Fake virus and security warnings designed to frighten you into calling
  • Browser hijackers such as Snapdo that force your homepage and search engine
  • Extensions and add-ons that were installed without your permission
  • New toolbars and search boxes that keep reappearing after you remove them
  • Notification permission abuse - sites that spam you with "notifications"
  • Search results redirecting to a different engine you never chose

Why it keeps coming back

Because removing the visible symptom does nothing about what reinstalls it. The usual chain is a cracked program, a bundled "free" tool, or an extension installed from a pop-up you clicked to close.

I remove all of it in one pass and then find the thing that put it there, which is the only way it does not come back in three weeks.

How a visit works

  1. 1

    You call and describe it

No booking form and no call centre. I will tell you honestly whether it sounds like something I can fix, and roughly what it will cost.

  2. 2

    I come to you

Early morning, evening, weekend or public holiday - all normal, none surcharged. Home or office. You can watch the work.

  3. 3

You are told before anything happens

The price is agreed before the job starts, and if a part is needed you get the cost price rather than a mark-up.

  4. 4

It works, or you do not pay

If I cannot fix it, there is no charge. If something I did stops working, I come back and look at it.

Pop-ups - common questions

Are these pop-ups a virus?

Usually not - it is adware or a browser hijacker. It behaves like malware and it is equally unwelcome, but it needs a different fix. I will tell you which one you have.

I have removed extensions myself and they come back. Why?

Because the thing reinstalling them is still there - usually a leftover program, a scheduled task, or a malicious preference in the browser profile. It needs a proper clean rather than another round of removing extensions.

Do I need a new computer?

Almost certainly not. This is a software problem and it gets fixed without touching the hardware.

Most jobs are a combination of these. If you are not sure which one you need, describe the problem on the phone and I will tell you.
